You can win $300 by creating an 8.5" x 11" poster with an anti-violence theme. Imagine the world without violence - then using any color scheme, draw or paint a picture and submit it to your school administration office by January 15th at 5pm or send it to Dawn Center, PO Box 6179, Spring Hill, FL 34611. Are you interested in using your artistic skills for social justice? Design a poster around the theme “IMAGINE A WORLD WITHOUT VIOLENCE” to help increase awareness of the need for healthy relationships in the home and throughout our community. Who is eligible? This contest is open to all Hernando County middle and high school students between 8th and 12th grades. What do you have to do? Create an original poster on 8.5” x 11” paper with an artistic design and/or text message that conveys a message encouraging people to work toward healthy relationships and stop violence of all forms before it starts. Your creation can focus on a general anti-violence theme or be focused on one specific type of violence (such as physical or emotional abuse, sexual violence, bullying, stalking, teen dating violence, elder abuse, child abuse, cyber-bullying, etc.) How long do you have to finish your artwork? The Dawn Center’s 3rd annual poster contest officially opened on Monday, November 16th and closes on Friday, January 15th. All entries must be received by your school administration office or via the United States Postal Service mailed to Dawn Center, PO Box 6179, Spring Hill, FL 34611 by 5pm on January 15, 2010. Are there any specific guidelines that must be followed? Yes…. Create your design in any color scheme on 8.5” x 11” paper only. Artwork must be an original design created by you alone. Write your name, the name of your school, your grade and age on the back of the poster. You may sign the artwork if you like – it’s your option. All images and material must be appropriate for audiences of all ages and should reflect the diversity present in our community in terms of race, ethnicity, gender and physical abilities. The Dawn Center reserves the right to disqualify submissions on the basis of inappropriate content, images or text. All entries become the property of the Dawn Center and may be used for future marketing purposes. Who picks the winners? A panel of judges made from the Dawn Center and Suncoast Schools Federal Credit Union will choose their favorite posters and determine first, second and third place winners on January 21, 2010 from 6-8pm in the lobby at Challenger K-8 School of Science and Mathematics. The judging event is open to the public. What if I’ve won?. Winners will be announced on January 21st after judging. The top three designs will be on display at the Brooksville City Hall during the month of February. The first place winner will win a new savings account at Suncoast Schools Federal Credit Union with a starting balance of $300., 2nd prize will be a $200 savings account and the third place winner will receive a $100 savings account. Prizes will be awarded at a reception on February 18th at City Hall from 5-7pm. Will I see my posters around town? Yes. The youth-led anti-violence poster campaign will be launched in Spring, 2010. We will be distributing the winning posters throughout the community. |
